There are many common problems that your Zumi gate opener. While a good number of these problems require the skill and experience of a professional technician to identify and sort out, a lot of them are simple enough for you to handle. This is where troubleshooting comes in. Every Zumi product comes with a product manual that gives you direction on how to solve these problems. In this blog, we will explore some of these insights and explain them in greater detail. Let’s get started.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
Before we learn about troubleshooting, there are three key points to take note of before starting any technical procedures on your gate opener:
- Leave any issue not found in the table below to a trained technician.
- Some issues, whose solution starts with “Have a certified electrician…” are also exclusive to technicians.
- ALWAYS cut the power by disconnecting the circuit board from its power source.
PROBLEM#1: THE GATE DOES NOT OPEN OR CLOSE NORMALLY AND NONE OF THE INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD ARE ACTIVATED
There are a number of other reasons why your gate could suddenly stop opening or closing. However, when the gate stops working, and at the same time, you notice that the lights on the circuit board are all off, this is an indication that the two issues are likely connected. Take note that this is a problem that has to do with electrical power, and you have to proceed with caution.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
- Verify that the power supply is functioning properly
It could be that power is out or the power supply has been turned off for some reason.
-
Check That the Fuse is Not Blown
Another likely possibility is that the fuse is blown. In any of the following situations, it is easy for a fuse to get blown:
- Moisture Intrusion: Water in electrical outlets, switches, or appliances can lead to shorts or ground faults, causing the fuse to blow.
- Short Circuit: A short circuit occurs when a live (hot) wire touches a neutral or ground wire, causing a sudden surge of electricity that blows the fuse.
- Damaged Insulation: If the insulation on some wires is frayed or damaged, they could become exposed and lead to accidental short circuits. This is common when the wires get too old or deteriorated.
- The Connections Are Loose: Loose wire connections in outlets, switches, or fixtures can cause intermittent surges of electricity, overloading the circuit.
- Have a certified electrician rewire your system.
If you cannot establish the source of the fault, or if you find that the switch is blown, you MUST resort to the services of a professional electrician.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMEDY ANY OF THESE SITUATIONS BY YOURSELF as this could only result in more damage.
PROBLEM #2: THE DOOR OPENS, BUT DOES NOT CLOSE
From the moment you hit the button, your age should close within 10-15 seconds. However, there are unusual cases where the door opens but refuses to close. While you may be tempted to think that there is some partial damage, and the systems responsible for closing the gate are not responding, it is often a lot simpler than that.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
- Remove any obstacles which might be in the gate’s path
It is rare that one part of the system gets damaged. So, in many cases, there might be an obstacle blocking the gate and preventing it from closing. Check the path thoroughly for any obstacles and try again.
- Report to Customer Service
If the problem persists, you might need specific help from the manufacturer. You can contact Zumi’s customer service at support@zumiaccess.com.
A better option is to go through the Zumi Gate Opener App. You can easily report your complaint and the assistance will come quicker.
PROBLEM#3: THE REMOTE CONTROL IS NOT WORKING
Regardless of which of Zumia’s gate openers you have, you should be able to use the remote control from anywhere within 164 feet of the gate. If you press the buttons but the gate refuses to respond, then there is a problem.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
- Change the remote control’s battery
It is most likely that the batteries are run down and need to be replaced.
- Pair the remote control to the board again
Your remote control may have been disconnected from the board. This doesn’t happen often, but if it does, all you need to do is reconnect the remote control to the board again.
- Remove Any Obstruction Between the Motor and the Remote
PROBLEM #4: THE CIRCUIT BREAKER KEEPS TRIPPING
If the circuit breaker to your Zumi Gate Opener keeps tripping, you have no option but to seek the services of a professional electrician. It is ill-advised that you try and solve this by yourself.
Have a certified electrician check the power supply line and motor line for short circuits and repair if necessary
PROBLEM #5: THE GATE SUDDENLY STOPS OR REVERSES
Do not panic if your gate suddenly stops in its track, or suddenly reverses its course. Your primary objective should be to get all items out of its way and prevent damages. However, this is often not an indication that there is a major problem with the gate itself.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION
- Remove any obstacles which might be in the gate’s path
In more cases than not, the gate stops or reverses when there is something in its path. The safety sensors must have identified something that triggers the automatic response. Look through the gate’s path and find out what it is. In some cases, it might even be something small like a heap of fallen leaves.
SOME CONCLUDING ADVICE
The key thing to remember is not to take matters into your own hands, especially in the case of electrical issues. Even if you are an experienced technician, it is advisable that you still refer to the product manual for specific instructions. Also, your gate opener will serve you much longer if you play a preventive role: inspect regularly and adopt measures to make sure that the probability of something going wrong stays at the minimum.
